The Structural Extreme Events Reconnaissance (StEER) Network would like to formally invite the PEER community to join StEER, an NSF-funded initiative to mobilize early reconnaissance missions immediately following major natural disasters.
Please take a moment to visit the StEER website at https://www.steer.network/ which includes information about StEER's vision, event responses, and products. More importantly, you are invited to join StEER by visiting the membership page at https://www.steer.network/membership and completing the linked Membership Application. Since only official members of StEER will be able to participate in event responses (either as part of VASTs: Virtual Assessment Structural Teams or FASTs: Field Assessment Structural Teams), we hope you will take a moment to complete the Membership Application today. Note that researchers with little to no experience in field reconnaissance are also welcome to join StEER.
To date, the newly formed StEER Network has coordinated 8 event responses, which involved 59 individuals from 31 different universities and organizations worldwide. NSF recognized that StEER would need to start deploying immediately following receipt of our EAGER funding and graciously provided the supplemental budget to do so, even before we could formalize our policies and member enrollment procedures. So we appreciate the community’s patience as we are working retroactively to establish StEER as an organization.
We look forward to working with you all to not only respond to future events, but to collectively establish a community-wide vision for structural extreme event reconnaissance, associated data standards and training programs to enhance our collective efforts to Build Resilience through Reconnaissance.
