The Structural Extreme Events Reconnaissance (StEER) Network has issued an Event Briefing for the Mw 5.9 Earthquake that occurred on 22 June 2022, Afghanistan. This project encompasses only an Event Briefing, an abbreviated StEER response mechanism that shares StEER’s impressions of the event and implications for natural hazard research and practice. Information provided herein was gathered from various websites, news channels, and USGS. Therefore, this briefing does not include insights from detailed field investigations. This earthquake briefing intends to: (1) provide details of the 22 June 2022 Mw 5.9 Afghanistan Earthquake, (2) describe damage to buildings and disruption to the community in terms of fatalities, downtime, and economic losses, and (3) list key lessons learned from this international event.
